Founder’s Corner

Welcome to Wilderness Way.  I hope you appreciate the simplicity and straightforwardness of our website.  That philosophy reflects what I was taught over forty-eight years ago when I first became involved with “wilderness” camping as a means to change children’s lives forever.  You have to love young people to stay in this business.  The struggles that one faces, the discouraged children, the hopeless parents, the abuse, the defiance sometimes seems overwhelming.  BUT. The day comes when the child realizes that the future can be different from the past, that there is hope, that there is love, and the struggle becomes worth it all.  And that’s the reason I love this work.

It is that sense of hope that I want to convey to you.  Yes, it is true that not every child is transformed by their stay at Wilderness Way Girls Camp, but the vast majority leave with lives changed forever.  If they didn’t I’d get an easier job!  Our camp for girls has been going full steam since 1991 and I love it.

The effectiveness of the “Wilderness Road” method of therapeutic intervention has been proven by over 60 years of experience.  New ideas about working with young people come and go every few years.  We stick with the basics, a proven formula that works.  What has worked in children’s lives continues to work, and to work more effectively than any other program available.  I encourage you to call .  We would be glad to talk to you about the “Wilderness Road” method and what makes it unique.  Or you might like to purchase a copy of  “Wilderness Road” or “Kids in Trouble” by Campbell Loughmiller.
